The oldest national park

Lal Suhanra in Bahawalpur District, established in 1972. It is also the only biosphere reserve of Pakistan. Lal Suhanra is the only national park established before the independence of the nation in August 1947. The main purpose of this area was to protect the wildlife of Cholistan Desert.A national park is an area set aside by a national government for the preservation of the natural environment. A national park may be set aside for public recreation and enjoyment or for its historical or scientific interest while keeping most landscapes and their accompanying plants and animals in their natural state.

Globally, there are around 6,555 national parks. Out of these 6,555 parks, 21 parks are situated in Pakistan. These national parks cover about 29,589 km² of the area which is roughly about 3 % of the total area (10,060,96 km²) of the countryThe Kirthar National Park is situated in the Kirthar Mountains in Karachi and Jamshoro District in Sindh, Pakistan. It was founded in 1974 and stretches over 3,087 square kilometres (1,192 sq mi), making it the second largest national park in Pakistan after Hingol National Park.The uncontested heavyweight champion of the National Park System is Alaska's Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve. At 13.2 million acres, it's larger than Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, and Switzerland combined.

Pakistan now has 398 protected areas, including 31 national parks, 92 animal sanctuaries, 97 game reserves, 19 wetlands reserves, and 160 community reserves.27
